Join Twister in the Caribbean for winter sun sailing as she works her way north through the Lesser Antilles in the Caribbean Sea. Spend two weeks sailing and exploring these beautiful turquoise waters and island hopping your way from Guadeloupe to St. Maarten

Your holiday will begin on the rugged and volcanic Caribbean island of Guadeloupe. Guadeloupe is a French overseas region with its main island in the shape of a butterfly with the Salée River running in between.  The mainland is hilly and home to long beaches and sugarcane fields. Parc National de la Guadeloupe encompasses the beautiful Carbet Falls and the volcano of La Grande Soufrière. Guadeloupe also has smaller islands that include Marie-Galante and La Désirade. From here you will sail north to islands such as Antigua, Barbuda and St. Maarten.

Antigua is the mainland of the country of Antigua and Barbuda. Surrounded by turquoise waters, miles of coral reefs, stretches of sandy beaches and sheltered bays, this island is great for snorkelling, swimming and general relaxation. Quintessentially Caribbean in culture, you will find streets full of colourful timber houses, palms swaying in the trade wind breeze and friendly locals.

Although the hilly Caribbean island of St. Maarten has a Dutch and a French part, they share enough traditions that it can be hard to tell where Sint Maarten ends and Saint-Martin begins. Although the diverse island is flatter in the west, the mountains result in a rain shadow which dries the trade winds. This makes the island drier than other islands located in the northeast Caribbean Sea. As we encounter the island, we might catch a glimpse of the Heineken Regatta which takes place from the 3 – 5 March.

There is no fixed itinerary for your sailing holiday so there is no guarantee that you will reach all the islands listed as Twister will need to sail where the wind and weather take her. The Skipper will have a better idea of the holiday plan as you board Twister and will give a briefing on your first evening. But rest assured where ever you sail in this beautiful part of the world – you won’t be disappointed.

The beauty of being on a ship in these breathtaking islands is that we can take you to the unspoilt, authentic Caribbean, away from the busy resorts and beaches. Experience true Caribbean culture, from small fishing villages to lively, colourful carnivals. The crew will aim to give you time to explore the islands as you wish, finding harbours to berth at and secluded bays to anchor in. Feel the sand between your toes, soak up the wonderfully colourful Caribbean culture, snorkel with the fantastic marine life or simply kick back and relax on the beach.

Wildlife in the Caribbean is a real treat. Spot graceful Green and Loggerhead Sea Turtles gliding effortlessly through the water and Bottlenose Dolphins swimming with the wake of the bow. Whales also frequent the Caribbean sea, with the warm water providing the perfect breeding grounds at this time of year for the humpback whale. Birdlife in the Caribbean is an incredibly beautiful sight. Keep your binoculars ready to spot these colourful delights. With species only native to the Caribbean, these are once-in-a-lifetime encounters! Pink Flamingos are also a common bird across the Caribbean islands; these sociable creatures inhabit the blue lagoons, mudflats and lakes, living in colonies that can contain thousands of individuals.

Onboard schooner Twister, we give everything to provide a unique sailing holiday experience. The aim is to include you in as much or as little as you wish to take part in; hoisting of the sails, helming the ship or simply being on wildlife watch and soaking up the Caribbean sunshine. We believe that in our fast-moving modern world, there is a great deal of satisfaction to work as part of a team aboard a ship from a bygone era; navigating the seas, discovering new islands and enjoying that winter sunshine. Twister’s crew are exactly whom you want to be joining you whilst you holiday. Their accommodating nature and experience will instantly put you at ease and they will undoubtedly look after you. If you have no experience, they will instil great confidence in literally – helping you to learn the ropes.
