It is four o’clock on board. Also known as snack o’clock and cake o’clock.
A favourite time of the day. A moment we sit together on the aft deck.
Always one person at the helm who is relieved by the first one to finish eating.
We drink a cup of tea, cup of coffee or cup of juice.
I just had a sneak peak in the galley and will share the secret information with you: we will have carrot cake today.
These moments, breakfast at 7:30, lunch at 11:30, snack o’clock and dinner at 19:30 are precious moments.
These moments are announced by a cheerful bell in the wheelhouse. Eating time!
We chat about the day. People from different watches exchange what happened. Sometimes a whale passes by..
Next to these moments, people also meet at other moments outside of the watches.
For example, during a workshop in the afternoon (today celestial navigation with Katrin), relaxing together in the wheelhouse or joining another watch for fun when awake.
This group has grown into a real family. People can be their true selves: make silly jokes, sing, be tired, and share their stories and thoughts with each other.
The true gift of sharing the experience of crossing the almighty Atlantic Ocean.
